A native of Detroit and currently living in Atlanta, Susan Pepka has enjoyed great diversity throughout her life. Mother of three and grandmother of four, Susan has experienced life as a preschool teacher, technologist in diagnostic imaging, co-owner of a successful wellness center, meditation teacher and now a published author with the debut of her first children’s book, Gus’ Fortunate Misfortune.

One of Susan’s greatest pleasures is reading wonderful stories that stir the imagination and nourish the spirit. Her passion is helping others find ways to healthier, happier, and more meaningful lives. Her wish is that all beings live together in harmony.

Even after we spent some time reading the book together, I have found my boys snuggled in their beds or relaxing on the couch reading the book over and over and still share their thoughts of the adventure and fears the Gus had to face. Again, not only is the story a sweet story, but the illustrations had pulled me in from the first page! This is a great book for families and opens up a way to have some good conversations with kids of all ages.

As an educator and librarian, I highly recommend you adding this title to your library. For my fellow educators, there are a lot of great topics that can be introduced and taught in your classroom such as patience, kindness, and emotions. This is a wonderful story for my school-aged children, and the story can easily be broken down into separate days. There are a lot of really great stopping points to discuss and take questions. It’s very easy to build a whole lesson plan around this book.
A sweet, meaningful, and endearing book for kids and adults alike! Beautiful images that reflect the wonderful heart of this little tale. It will quickly become a family favorite!

What a little gem of a book! It delights children and gives adults a few things to ponder. The illustrations are just wonderful- a “must have” for your children’s library!
